In Year 7, 8 and 9 your child will study...
In Years 7, 8 and 9 there are four English lessons a week. Pupils are placed into ability groups based on their Key Stage 2 test and teacher assessment. In Years 7, 8 and 9 pupils complete topic based Schemes of Work which develop their reading, writing and speaking and listening skills in line with the new Key Stage 3 Programme of Study. These focus on areas such as adventure, gothic horror stories and nature.

AQA GCSE English Language and English Literature
Pupils gain 2 GCSEs in English whilst at Parkside. The AQA English Language course covers the reading and writing of both fiction and non fiction texts. In order to gain a GCSE in English Language, pupils must sit two examinations in the summer of Year 11. The AQA English Literature course comprises of the study of Shakespeare, contemporary drama, poetry and whole novels. Assessment is through two examinations in the summer of Year 11.
