Queen’s Park Opening Ceremony

Parkside Community School was recently invited to the opening of the new £11m Queen’s Park Leisure Centre.  A number Year 9 students were given a personal tour of the new facilities and then invited to take part in a badminton training session in the Sports Hall.  The opening ceremony was attended by numerous VIPs including Olympic swimmer Ross Davenport, Paralympic swimmer Martin Ansell and Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins to name but a few.         

The fortunate students were then able to play table tennis with Junior England star Isobel Ashley, and observe a Tae Kwondo demonstration by National Junior Champion Aaron Cobley. The  inspired youngsters were very impressed by the brand new facilities and stated that they would look forward to visiting again and would ensure they tried out the huge variety of sports available to them.
